walkin with a rope
last week, we had a school-wide assembly for peace day, including all the jr high students from the farm school and all the little ones attending the montessori in redlands. while we were walking to the assembly, i gasped when i saw the kids - LOOK! HOW FUNNY!!! THEY’RE ALL TIED UP!!! then someone explained it to me, and i thought it was really cute the way they walked the kids over - what they do is have a rope with loops in it, and the students put their hands through the loop. they can hold the rope, or just have their hand there, suspended by the loop in the rope, and they all walk together. not once did i see any of the kids take off in another direction - they were all guided by this rope. it didn’t necessarily pull anyone along, i think it just slowly guided them. they even had the 18-month-olds walking like this too! it was such a simple trick, but it worked to keep all the students together. amazingness…
i used to see this at the park near my school in downtown. but except the harness used to bind and keep the kids together was high tech, and was actually meant for this purpose. each cuff was a small plastic size and it could be added or decreased a link depending on how many children.
