happy halloween

i don’t normally celebrate halloween but i did stop by janet’s party dressed up as a li’l school girl… gwyn & perry think i should’ve worn the outfit to school today - the irony being that i’m the teacher!  hahahah… anyways, that night the best costume in my opinion tho was rod and colleen’s prom king and queen outfit - as a 50’s high school couple.  they’re so cute…

workshop fridays

every other friday at my school is a workshop friday, and i’ve chosen to teach quilting as one of my workshops.  today, carynn finished her first quilt ever!  i’m so proud of her =) she did a great job learning how to use a sewing machine and putting her pieces together, and she’s now inspired to make several quilts for her baby cousin that was just born and for a few more peoples…

i have so much fun with the students when they’re willing to participate in the activities!

munkeyin' around the gym

jesse, gus, & madison jumping to click their heels
jesse, gus, & madison were jumpin and clickin their heels after the volleyball game last week, and they had so much fun posing for the camera =) my poor camera… i couldn’t find the charger during the big move and when i finally turned my camera back on, the left and right buttons don’t work anymore!  that means that i can’t change the settings, so it’s stuck at 1M with the flash on.  booo!!!  i’m not happy about that.  luckily, i can still take some pictures, although they’re not the quality i want them to be anymore.  anyways, pictures will be a little sporadic from now on since i’ve stopped taking as many pictures.

jesse, gus, & madison donnelly monkey around the gym
anyways, this means that i’m in the market for a new camera.  any suggestions?

407th place

out of 1473 players in the blogger’s poker tournament.  so what’s that… um… i dunno, somewhere in the top 3rd.  i guess that’s good enough for my first time…

here are my stats:
During current Hold’em session you were dealt 142 hands and saw flop:
- 7 out of 15 times while in big blind (46%)
- 7 out of 15 times while in small blind (46%)
- 20 out of 112 times in other positions (17%)
- a total of 34 out of 142 (23%)
Pots won at showdown - 5 of 12 (41%)
Pots won without showdown - 17

is that good?  bad?  i know some of the hands i shouldn’t have played, actually, most of the time i was playing conservative, but then i played an A-8 suited and the dude had an A-9, and then after that they started having ante’s, and that just sucked all the money outta my chip stack.

but hey, it looks like i won 22 hands out of the 34 hands that i played, so that’s not that bad. =)

and i think i’ve learned quite a bit about how to play in online tourneys, and that’ll definitely help me next time, if i ever join one again.

OR… maybe i’ll just go to pechanga instead and do it live =) hahahaha… you think i’m joking, don’tcha =)

off to school i go

it’s past 8 but i’m not late to work.  after all, it’s a friday, so i’m either gonna do a quilting workshop or take my students on a field trip.  this week is field trip friday, and so i’ve joined forces with science-kim and gabriela and we’re headed to the krikorian with about 50 students and we’re gonna watch the corpse bride.

yes, you heard me right!  for work today, i get to go in late and watch corpse bride with my students =)

i dunno how science-kim did it but she has reasons to watch this.  we’re gonna go over literary mumbo jumbo before the movie and talk about the time period, the movie style, etc, and then we get to watch it.

oh, and when that’s over, i’m done working for the day =) i’ll probably hang out at gfe or something and get all my grading done.  i LOVE fridays!

old skool tv show movies

it’s so cool, i’m sitting here with my seniors talking about the upcoming live action transformers movie, and then they told me they’re also making a he-man movie!!  and the dude who’s playing he-man is jason lewis, who played smith jerrod on #### and the city.  it was funny cuz his imdb profile doesn’t have a profile pic, and it says he’s in a movie, my bollywood bride, so at first we thought he-man was gonna be indian!  but no, he has long blonde hair and he actually looks like he-man!

another movie they were talking about was the thundercats movie, which, according to that website, stars Mathew McConnaughey as Liono, Ed Harris as Mumm-Ra, Tea Leoni as Cheetara, Wesley Snipes as Panthro, and David Carradine as Tigra.  NO FRICKIN WAY!  but i can’t find any info for it on imdb, so… i dunno, i guess we’ll have to wait to see.

but yah, it’s cool.  that’s my big news for today.  and btw, i like it that my students know what thundercats and silverhawks and voltron and all that other stuff is =)

mmm... pancake breakfast

so… some of the students brought pancake batter this morning and made pancakes during their free period.  i happened to see ‘em and snagged the remnants and had a mini-pancake for breakfast this morning.  meanwhile, the student body president brought oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough and they put it in the oven in between classes and then ran outta my classroom to pull it out of the oven, and then brought it back to class and shared with everyone.

have i said yet that i LOVE my school?  where else would my students make me pancakes for breakfast and bake cookies for my entire class?  this place ROCKS!!!!

proverbs 32: the virtuous man

so yesterday, i was reading laura’s birthday tribute to her dad, and i was impressed with the relationship that they shared.  i found it so sweet that i commented that i want my future husband to have that with my future daughter.

and then one of my guy friends told me that i’m asking for alot, and the other one just said, “good luck.” actually, the first one told me “hehehe, seems like you have alot of expectations, perhaps you need alot of prayers =)”

yes, i would appreciate the prayers, but y’know, i was thinking, it’s not too much to ask that a guy strives to make our family the best it can be - after all, i’d like to think that i come as close to the virtuous woman described in proverbs 31 as i possibly can.  yah, i’m not perfect, but i like to try to do the best for my family & friends.  and stuff like cooking dinner for all my friends every tuesday and learning to sew or fix the fridge is something i wanna keep on doing all my life, especially when i have kids and become the housewife i’ve always wanted to be.

at any rate, i ended up googling “virtuous woman and virtuous man Bible passage” and came up with this website that makes up the qualities of a virtuous man.  now, i KNOW that there’s no 32nd book of proverbs, but this is a compilation of desirable male traits taken from the real 31 books of proverbs.  and since there IS a list of qualities that woman should be, it’s sorta nice to have this Biblical list of what a guy should be too.

and may he play volleyball too =)

productivity

yesterday, i got up past noon.  but i made up for it the rest of the day, cuz you know what i did?  i cleaned up my room (no more pile of boxes in the middle of my room!  yay!!), fixed my fridge (and impressing rita’s mom by doing so), cleaned up my living room, cooked myself -both- breakfast-past-lunch-time and dinner, paid all my bills, and just in general got my life in order.  well… all that was possible, anyways.  so much stuff done… i’m so proud of myself =) and it only took a month after i moved in =) hahahaha… nice, eh?

i'm just a regular person!

last night, two of my students (cp & sh) called me just to say hi, and they asked me what i was doing.  hahhaha… they caught me on the way to AI, so i told ‘em:  “i’m headed over to arcade right now.” i could hear them talking to themselves - ‘omg, she’s going to the arcade’ and i could hear the laughter in the background.  =)

but yah, the students get so weirded out by me being a normal person.  well, by normal, i mean, not just a teacher.

like the other day, some of the students found out i’m on myspace, and they were like, “YOU have a myspace?!?!” they couldn’t believe it =) and then their classmate (cs) was like, “c’mon guys, she’s not THAT old!” hahahaha....

yesterday was really funny tho cuz in geometry, mr was freaking out cause he couldn’t handle the fact that i was “normal” or just like them.  right before the class started the students were all crowded around my desk and listening to music and i was singing along, and he just kept on telling me - STOP IT!!! THIS IS JUST TOO WEIRD!! YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE A TEACHER!”

i dropped my head into my hands, mock-hurt, and said, “teachers are normal people too!!!!  we just wanna be loved!!!!”

yah, the students… they’ve gotta get used to me =)

a bit of rafalosophy

so tonight i went to rafa‘s poetry reading and heard him perform this poem that i’ve heard him read before, but this was my first time seeing him perform it on stage.  actually, it was the first time i’d seen him perform anything on stage.  if you can call the basement of grounds for enjoyment a stage…

afterwards, we stuck around and discussed life… and as i was letting him in on a few changes in my stance on life, he asked me if i was studyin’ up on his rafalosophy.  hmmm… i’d like to think of my development as strictly my own, although i have to admit that my friends, and my conversations with them, -do- influence my growth.  i think mostly i wanna claim my recent progress as something i’ve grown into as the time was right for it, instead of something that i accept only cuz he beat me over the head with it =D any of you who have a friendship with him like i do know what i’m talking about, right?

anyways, i guess i just wanna say that i’m realizing more and more that life is what i make of it… this might be just a product of me growing up or just finally realizing it but hey, this is my life, and i’m enjoying it.  sure, things could be different, things could possibly be even better, but ya know what?  it’s my life, and it’s what i choose every day, and i’m okay with that.  maybe it’s just a result of finally having a job that i love, and being where i feel i should be, instead of feeling like i’m still searching for a purpose in life.  or maybe it’s just cuz now i’m 26 and i’m more mature than i was before.  whatever the reason, i know that i can make the choice every day to live this life…

life is a choice.  happiness is a choice.  and it’s a choice that i’m learning to make.  none of this waiting till things get better.  i’m just gonna start enjoying it now =)
