christmas in maui

i did say that my family went to maui for Christmas, right?

well, yesterday, my brother, andy, and i took kealani and kainoa up to kapalua bay to frolick in the waves…

we stopped by the side of the road and saw whales in the water.  you can’t see em in this picture but this was our view of the beach that we ended up at.  it’s the beach for the ritz-carlton, the one that will host the mercedes benz golf tourney on jan 1

walking thru the jungle trying to find a beach

and arriving at kapalua bay

you can’t really tell in this pic but the waves were huge!

see… they were huge!  and yes… that IS what i looked like… and kainoa too!  hahah…

the puen family Christmas

for Christmas this year my uncle roy decided to come to his vacation house here in maui, and he brought my grandma with him.  my cousin mark (uncle herbert’s son) already lives here about 10 minutes away, and their family came out too.  my dad and mom couldn’t make it but my brother, andy, and i came to join the puen family Christmas here in maui.  =)

so here are my cousins and nieces and nephews surrounding my grandma outside cafe o’lei in kihei, maui

my brother and i just met our aunt jenny and her daughter carla

but the real star of this Christmas is my 93-year-old grandma jessie

here she is with most of her great grandchildren (kealani is missing from this picture, but you can see ryan, kainoa (who’s hugging her), kaili, and megan)

me 'n my roomies

a little bit over 4 years ago (october 2002?) i moved in an apartment with kat and rita in grand terrace…

and then 3 and a half years ago the three of us moved down the street into a house and shelia joined us there.  the four of us in our new bachelorette pad… on one of our first nights after we moved in we had a bunch of friends over for wednesday night dinner and we ended up taking a buncha pics of us in our new place.  yeah, that was us!  get together and take pictures… =)

it’s been a while since the four of us have been in the same place ever since we moved out of the house a year ago but now we’re making sure that the four of us get together at least once a month for some quality time with the ladies =) this time, for our Christmas get together, kat decided to give us the gift of a photoshoot.  we ended up recreating some of the pictures we’ve taken in the past.... you can see some of the pics we took on kat’s blog but i thought i’d put up some of the “original"s so you can compare them and see that we’ve grown up into “quite lovely young ladies”, to quote my aunts =) as for me… i just enjoyed taking pics and being artistic and the chance to make memories with the girls.  it was definitely a great gift from kat!

anyways, on to the pictures:

here we are on our first furniture that we bought together, the red leather couch

and then here we are on the white couch that we got later… i know this picture’s a little blurred but it is one of my favorites cuz we’re all laughing and having a good time =)

and then another one of us all gathered around on the matching rug we bought for the red couch =) i think daryl took this picture, and the time stamp says this was taken june 23, 2003

so on saturday’s photoshoot we recreated the pic, with the help of chris behind the camera, also taking care of the lighting, the fan, and everything else!

here’s another photo from july 19, 2003, for rita’s 25th bday!

and the remake of it:

like i said, kat has more pics up, and it’s all thanks to her that we got to do this.... so go check out the pics and leave her a nice comment!

getting my computer together...

the tech guy sent me a new hard drive to replace the one that broke and i’m -hating- getting it all together… it takes so long to personalize everything and get the setting correct and this is the second time i’m doing all of this - in less than a month!

i wish i could just “restore” and go back to my 12 inch…

-sigh-

y'know it's no good when tech support swears at your computer

so yeah.... tuesday, everything’s great, i’m on my computer, and i turned it off when i went to bed....

and then wednesday, at school, i try to power it on, and i got the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!!  grrr.... windows wouldn’t boot up!  it just kept on saying “UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME”.  i asked all my tech-savvy students to take a look; none of them could figure it out.  meanwhile i was txting jayson the whole time to see if he could give me any tips on what to do… no luck there either.  the tech support dude who works at our school printed out a possible solution for me to try once i got home with my cds but that didn’t work either.

so late last night i called dell support and got some guy in new delhi.  he was very helpful and i did all that he asked me to do and at one point, we ran diagnostics.  everything was going fine until my computer started blaring at me, "ERROR 0142!!!!  ERROR 0142!!!!"

‘error 0142!” i told him, “what do i do now?”

and then i started laughing when he said “OH SHIT! turn the computer off”

yeah.... when tech support starts swearing at ur computer, u know that’s never good.  turns out my hard drive crashed because it wouldn’t let me re-install windows on it.  the bad news is that i lost everything since my last back-up about 1-2 weeks ago.  the good news is… nope, there isn’t any.  i have to wait 2-3 business days before i get a new hard drive, one without any of my information on it.  boooooo!!!

owning computers really sucks…

john 11:35

“jesus wept"

this week has been both good for me and rough for me, for a variety of reasons… i cried at least 3 days this week… and yesterday i was listened to an episode of this Christian radio drama, “down gilead lane", and it was the thanksgiving special.  and one of the people in it said that she was thankful for john 11:35.

cuz “jesus wept”.

and so he should understand when we’re sad, and he does… it was actually rather comforting to hear, really.  he’s been here, and he’s been sad.  and he can understand when i’m crying too.

it’s weird how that 2 word verse can mean so much....

fro

this is my student, who goes by the name “fro”

the name was of his own choosing, although i’m sure you can guess where the nickname comes from…

and today, the art teacher came into my classroom and asked to take a photo of me.  sure, why not? so i stood by my whiteboard with all my notes up on the board and pretended to be writing some more.  no - he wanted me to look into the camera and smile with my lips closed.

okay....

i didn’t really know what was going on… and then i found this final product!:

a decent job of photoshop, yet it is very weird & sorta disturbing…

change is good

my lease is up on december 31.  which means that i have to either sign the lease again (which i didn’t as of the due date, december 1), or face a higher month-to-month rent.

i didn’t like either option.

so basically, i’m left finding a place to move to.

but that’s ok, cuz change is good.  we could’ve stayed in this place indefinitely, not too happy about the amount of rent we’re paying, or the noise from the neighbors, but we’ve been content enough to stay.  or maybe not discontent enough to leave.  but finally they’ve changed the terms on us, causing us to make a decision.

i was sorta unhappy about that a month ago but now i realize that the change is for the better - either i’m gonna start building equity with my monthly payments or i’ll find a place with cheaper rent.  or something.  either way, i’m looking for a solution to make it better for me.  and i’m way excited about it.

they forced us to make a choice… and we’re looking for the best answers for our life =)

carmelo anthony at glendale adventist academy

see the shots of him in the gym (at 2, 9, 18, 23, 29, 39, 46 seconds, etc)?  you know, with the white walls and the curved wooden beams coming from the roof?  the cougars gym covered in green and yellow pads in the background?  that’s my high school right there…

just sorta cool to see the place you grew up in some NBA commercial… i played my varsity games there, y’know!  now it’s where some nba star films his commercials?  shweet…
